Christians Urged to Support Church Leaders in Spreading the Gospel

Rukungiri: Christians have been urged to support church leaders instead of fighting them, so that they can effectively preach the gospel and promote development in the church and community.

The call was made on October 4, by Rev. Canon Elisha Wasswa, the Bishop’s Commissary of North Kigezi Diocese, during a thanksgiving service for retired Rev. Charles and Betty Mugyenyi, held at St. Stephen Kihanga Church of Uganda Parish in Buhunga Archdeaconry, North Kigezi Diocese.

Rev. Canon Wasswa said church leaders are God’s chosen servants who are sent to communities to preach the gospel and discourage people from engaging in evil acts.

He urged Christians to always give thanks to God for the gift of life, saying thanksgiving is an important spiritual practice that strengthens believers’ relationship with God, attracts His presence and encourages them to move forward in life.

Speaking to our reporter after the thanksgiving service, retired Rev. Charles Mugyenyi thanked God for guiding him throughout his service as a pastor.

Mugyenyi said he served the Church of Uganda for 45 years, starting in 1981, before retiring in 2025.

He said because of his long service and experience, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, called him out of retirement and assigned him to serve at St. Stephen Kihanga Church of Uganda Parish.

Mugyenyi thanked Bishop Asiimwe for trusting him and pledged to work together with Christians to preach the gospel and promote development in the church.
