WWF pays courtsey visit to Rukungiri Tree growers and Timber Traders co-operative society, promises unwavering support.
Rukungiri: World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) from the country and Finland offices on Tuesday 30th January 2024 paid a courtesy visit to the Rukungiri Tree growers and Timber Traders cooperative society.
The WWF for nature who are the funders of the co-operative promised continuous support to the members of the cooperative in a meeting held at Kagogo Timber yard, Eastern division, Rukungiri municipality.
The World Wide Fund for Nature, Forest market transformation manager, Harold Turinawe Bamwoya revealed that the purpose of the visit was to make a follow-up of their projects running in Rukungiri.
Turinawe hailed members for the added efforts including extending electricity co-operative premises and forming accountability committees which he says demonstrates a high level of organisation.
Speaking during the same meeting, the senior Forestry officer, Rukungiri district and the patron Rukungiri Tree growers and Timber traders association, Aurther Twinomujuni commended WWF for supporting the co-operative for the time it has been in existence.
Twinomujuni further thanked Rukungiri district local government for offering them an acre land where the timber yard is established. He said they are going to promote timber processing through value addition which will promote the both national and intentional market for timber products hence increasing tree farmers and timber dealers income.
