UPDF Soldiers in Somalia Donate Blood to Save Lives on World Blood Donor Day.

Uganda: Ugandan soldiers serving under the United Nations Guard Unit XI (UNGU XI) in Somalia joined the rest of the world to mark World Blood Donor Day by organizing a blood donation exercise at the Level One Field Hospital in Mogadishu.

The event, held under the theme “Give Blood, Give Hope Together We Save Lives”, involved UPDF personnel voluntarily donating blood to support emergency medical care and show their commitment to humanitarian service.

The Commanding Officer of UNGU XI, Lt Col Peter Ruyogoza Barigye on June 14, in Mogadishu, Somalia told our news reporter that the exercise was a way to recognize the important role of blood donors around the world and encouraged more troops to participate in such life-saving activities.

The event was organized in partnership with the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) Sector One Level Two Field Hospital. The donated blood will support treatment at AUSSOM facilities, the UNGU medical unit, and other hospitals across Somalia.

Medical teams praised the troops for their selfless contribution, saying the blood collected will help save lives and improve access to critical care services in the region.

The exercise showed the UPDF’s continued dedication to humanitarian values and its support for the well-being of people in Somalia.
