Three Presidents to grace International Nurses and Mid-wives day

Rukungiri: Three East African presidents have confirmed their presence to grace the international day of Nurses and midwives union in Rukungiri district. 

This was revealed by Chairperson Uganda Nurses and midwives association at the same time, the retired District health officer in charge of child health of Kanungu district, Canon Sister Florence Rwabahima during the preparatory meeting held at palm Royal hotel in Southern division, Rukungiri municipality on Sunday April 21, 2024.

The presidents who have confirmed are; Paul Kagame of Rwanda, William Ruto of Kenya and Yoweri Museven Kaguta Tibuhaburwa who will be the chief guest.

Rwabahima noted that the day is always celebrated on 12th May annually but that the day has been changed to 15th to 17th May due to National census in the country due to begin on May 10, 2024.

She challenged Nurses and midwives to fully participate in the celebrations since science changes every now and then compared to their time.

She also commended Rukungiri the district administrators for their effort and called on well wishers to join them as they celebrate.

In the same meeting, the Rukungiri district Assistant District Health Officer in Charge of maternal child health, Sister Christine Kyomuhangi Kakuru urged Nurses and midwives to mobilize other nurses to join them in the celebrations.

She however expressed concern over inactive participation in their celebrations in other areas and advised them to have one goal and one voice through addressing their concerns in the upcoming celebrations which will help them to achieve their goals.

On his part, the general secretary Rukungiri District Nurses and midwives union, Alex Akankwasa challenged Nurses and midwives to pay their participation fees which will ensure smooth running of the function.

According to Akankwasa, 140 million shillings is needed for the function urging Rukungiri district legislators and all well wishers to support them which will make the function colourful.

The international day of Nurses and midwives will start with the conference on 15th May at Immaculate heart girls SS, then will be celebrated on 17th may 2024 in Rukungiri main Stadium under the theme” Our Nurses our future, the economic power for care”.
