Rukungiri Taxi Operators elect New leadership ending six years of controversy.

Rukungiri: Members of Rukungiri taxi owners, drivers and conductors cooperative society limited have elected new leadership after six years of irregularities in their cooperative.

The voting exercise which attracted 189 voters was on Wednesday June 12, 2024 conducted at All Saints Church Rukungiri in Rukungiri municipality and was presided over by the Rukungiri municipal senior commercial officer, Perry Owoyesigire.

The positions which were vied for include the one of chairman, vice chairman, and five committee members while the treasurer and secretary posts candidates passed through unopposed.

Kamusime Milton won the chairmanship seat after garnering 120 votes while his two competitors namely Buhamizo Happy got 60 votes and Kubiriba Benon obtained 7 votes only.

Elias Kangume was elected the Vice chairperson after getting 109 votes defeating his main challenger Herbert Biryiija who got 80 votes.

Elected as Committee members are Kenneth Asiimwe, Hasan Gumisiriza, Muhwezi Robert, Muramira Bernard and Niwahereza Darius.

The Town clerk Rukungiri municipality, Robert Niwamanya hailed the cooperative members for having a transparent election and advised them to observe the rule of law as well as holding quarterly meetings if they are to iron out the emerging disagreements.

Speaking shortly after the elections, the Rukungiri municipal principal commercial officer Grace Tayebwa, asked members of the cooperative to work as a team and be result oriented by increasing their number of shares which will eventually increase their assets.

Meanwhile, the chairman elect Milton Kamusime thanked the members for putting trust in him and promised to work hand in hand with the members for the good of their co-operative.

He challenged the members to cooperate with the traffic officers in case of any mistake instead of running away.
