Rukungiri Returning Officer Abbas Namara calls for mass participation in Voters Register update exercise.

Rukungiri: The Rukungiri district returning officer Abbas Namara has rallied eligible voters in the district to actively participate in the ongoing national voters register update exercise.

Namara made the call while speaking to our reporter who had visited him at his office in Rukungiri town.

The elections officer revealed that the update that commenced on Monday January 20, 2025 will run up to 10th February 2025 at the designated Parishes.

Namara highlighted that this critical exercise, forming part of the roadmap to the 2026 General Elections and Referenda, aims to ensure that all eligible voters are prepared to participate in free and fair elections.

He further revealed that the update will allow Ugandans to Register as voters if they have turned 18, Update their voting location if they have moved to a new residence, Confirm their personal details to ensure accuracy in the register, Assign polling stations for newly registered voters.

Namara however warned that Ugandans who will turn eighteen years after the voters register update exercise will not be eligible to vote in the upcoming elections.

While addressing the Media in Kampala on Monday, Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugyenyi revealed that Uganda currently has about 22 million eligible voters.
