Rukungiri Residents Urged to be Vigilant Amidst Ebola Outbreak in DRC

Rukungiri: Residents of Rukungiri District have been urged to remain vigilant following reports of a fresh Ebola outbreak in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which has claimed over 15 lives.

The call was made on September 9, by the Rukungiri District Health Educator, Alban Natukunda, during an interview with our reporter at his office in Rwamahwa, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality.

Natukunda advised residents to exercise caution, especially when interacting with strangers, stressing that vigilance is key in preventing the spread of Ebola.

He cautioned the public saying that we are not safe from the risk of Ebola, because Uganda is a country that always receives refugees from Congo where Ebola is common.

He further urged the public to promptly report any suspicious individuals in their communities to local leaders or health authorities, saying such persons could pose health risks.

The Health Educator also emphasized the importance of regular hand washing with soap, particularly when visiting healthcare facilities and public places. He warned against sharing items such as cups and other utensils with strangers, especially in health settings, as a preventive measure.

Natukunda called on residents to stay alert and observe all health guidelines to safeguard themselves and their families.
