Rukungiri NRM Youth Leaders Seek Meeting with Speaker Anita Among Over Youth Challenges
Rukungiri: Youth leaders in Rukungiri District under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) are seeking a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, to address key challenges affecting young people in the district.
The request was made by the chairperson of the NRM Youth League in Rukungiri Levi Tumukunde, also known as Napoleon, during a meeting of district delegates held at Riverside Hotel in Rukungiri Municipality on August 7. The delegates were meeting the campaign team of Hon. Anita Among, who is contesting for the position of 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) in the NRM party.
Tumukunde said the youth in Rukungiri have for a long time experienced neglect, partly because youth leadership in the district has been under the control of the opposition, especially the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), in recent years.
He noted that this political dynamic has limited access to opportunities for the youth in Rukungiri when compared to other districts in the Kigezi and Ankole sub-regions, where youth leadership has consistently been under the NRM, leading to more support and visible progress.
Tumukunde said that now that the youth leadership in Rukungiri is under the NRM, they must seize this opportunity to actively engage stakeholders, especially President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Speaker Anita Among, to ensure Rukungiri is prioritized in youth-centered programs and projects.
He added that support from top leadership would empower the youth, strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, and demonstrate to opposition supporters that the NRM delivers results and is committed to inclusive development.

The Member of Parliament for Sheema Municipality and campaign coordinator for Anita Among, Hon. Dickson Kateshumbwa, delivered the Speaker’s apologies to the delegates, explaining that she was unable to attend the meeting in person because she was on official duty in Parliament.
He assured the youth that their concerns would be delivered to the Speaker and emphasized that Anita Among respects every category of people, including the youth.
