Rukungiri Municipality Launches Major Health Infrastructure Projects
Rukungiri: Rukungiri Municipality has launched two major projects aimed at improving health service delivery and facility standards within the area.
According to the Municipal Civil Engineer, Amelia Ainembabazi, the projects fall under the health department and include the expansion and remodeling of the mortuary at Rwakabengo Health Centre III and the landscaping and exterior works at Kitimba Health Centre III.
Ainembabazi revealed that the contract for the Rwakabengo mortuary works was awarded to Ngabi Traders at a cost of UGX 51 million. The project involves constructing an extension room fitted with shelves for handling bodies and preparing the facility to accommodate a cooling system for the storage of corpses.
At Kitimba Health Centre III, the contract worth UGX 59 million was awarded to Rwenkurijo Builders Contractors Limited to construct a retaining wall, pave the front walkway, and plant trees and flowers in the compound to enhance the facility’s appearance and drainage.
The launch also included the monitoring of ongoing repairs at the minor theatre of Rukungiri Health Centre IV, where the UPDF construction brigade is fixing defects such as ventilation and sealing cracks. The theatre remains functional as repairs continue.

Speaking at the event on November 12, the Municipal Health Officer, Davis Ahabwe, said the decision to remodel the Rwakabengo mortuary was aimed at addressing the issue of unpleasant odors that have been affecting nearby residents. He added that the new cooler will help preserve bodies properly.
At Kitimba, Ahabwe explained that the landscaping works will prevent erosion and flooding while creating a more conducive environment for patients. He also urged the public, especially pregnant mothers, to seek caesarean services at Rukungiri LCIV, which are offered free of charge. Since November 6, he said, the facility has successfully carried out six operations.
