Rukungiri Municipality Launches 4 New Road Projects Worth Ugx 125 Million

Rukungiri: Rukungiri Municipality has officially launched the opening of four new road projects valued at 125 million shillings, aimed at boosting accessibility, mobility, and economic activity within the municipality.

The launch ceremony on November 10, was led by the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Bron Kinkashemeza, alongside Municipality Mayor Charles Makuru, Municipal Engineer Eng. Hangson Nuwamanya, municipal councillors, and the Town Clerk.

The newly opened roads include, Nyamizi–Ruruku Road worth Ugx 47 million shillings, Forestry–Kyatoko Road  worth Ugx 47 million shillings, Kinyasano–Kigina Road  worth Ugx 19 million shillings, and Numa Road worth Ugx 12 million shillings  each covering approximately one kilometer.

Speaking shortly after the launch, RDC Bron Kinkashemeza commended the municipal leadership for improving infrastructure, saying the extension and opening of feeder roads will enhance the municipality’s flexibility and promote trade and development.

He thanked residents who willingly offered their land for road construction without demanding compensation and urged them to protect and maintain the roads as vital public assets.

On his part, Municipal Engineer Eng. Hangson Nuwamanya told journalists that the newly opened roads will be properly drained and murramed, while bridges and culverts will be constructed in the next financial quarter.

He added that the executive committee’s supervision aimed at confirming that roads worked on in the previous quarter are in good and improved condition.

Meanwhile, Eastern Division LC3 Chairperson David Tumwesigye, together with Kyatoko Ward Councillor Bamanyisa Christopher Kashaija, applauded the municipal and divisional councils for fulfilling residents’ priority requests and improving road networks.

Tumwesigye also thanked residents who offered land willingly and encouraged them to utilize the new roads to boost trade and economic transformation in Rukungiri.

Municipal division councillors led by Twebaze Ben Mbada (Eastern Division Councillor), Twinamatsiko James (Eastern Division Speaker), and Ariho Judith (Kyatoko and Northern Ward B Councillor) expressed gratitude to the municipal leadership for improving road connectivity.

They pledged to continue monitoring road works to ensure they are well maintained, murramed, and equipped with bridges and culverts.

After the launch, the delegation also inspected several roads constructed in the previous quarter, including Kakonkoma Road, Kabahirayo–Miranda Road, Ndimbirwe Road, Ndimbirwe–Kagyera Road, Kaceeka–Nyabikuuku Road, Kitimba Road, Butagasi Road, Bunura Road, Nyakibale–Katwekame Road, and Karere–Kiziko Road to ensure quality standards were maintained.
