Rukungiri leaders want the district hospital pledge fulfilled.
Rukungiri: Leaders of Rukungiri district have unanimously called on president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to fulfill his pledge of the district hospital as one way of improving health services in the district.
The leaders made the call on Friday April 17, 2024 during the celebration of the international nurses and midwives day at Rukungiri main stadium in Rukungiri Municipality.
Geoffrey Kyomukama, the Rukungiri district LCV chairperson said that the district hospital pledge has been longstanding and asked the government to fast track fulfillment to ease the burden of referral cases.
His plea was supported by Medius Natukunda Kaharata, the Rukungiri district Woman Member of Parliament who urged the government to upgrade and elevate Rukungiri health center IV (Rwamahwa) to a district hospital if the pledge is hard to fulfill.
She said that much as the government has tried to improve services in the district including provision of ambulances to constituencies and rehabilitation of health center III’s, the district hospital is still needed to work on referral cases.
The security Minister Jim Muhwezi Katugugu who is also the Rujumbura County MP revealed that they are also pushing the president through cabinet meetings to ensure that the district hospital pledge is effected.
In response to the leaders concern, the vice president rtd major Jessica Rose Apel Arupo who presided over the function promised to make the follow up until the pledge is fulfilled.
In 2016 while at a political rally in Rukungiri main stadium, president Museveni promised to construct a referral hospital that would bring service closer to the people.
