Rukungiri District Receives X-ray Machine After 51years
Rukungiri: Rukungiri District has received its first digital X-ray machine in public health facilities since the district was established in 1974. At that time, the area was still known as North Kigezi District before it was renamed in 1980.
The X-ray machine, donated by the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) to the Government of Uganda and the Ministry of Health, was officially handed over to Rukungiri district authorities at the district headquarters on July 15. The event was attended by the District Health Officer (DHO), LC5 Chairperson, Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Principal Assistant Secretary (PAS), and other local leaders.
According to the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, the digital X-ray machine, valued at 145 million shillings, will be stationed at Bugangari Health Centre IV.
He noted that the machine is mobile and can be transported to health camps or emergencies in other health facilities across the district. He called on the trained staff to ensure it is used properly and securely to serve patients effectively.
RDC Nsubuga added that the X-ray machine is a major boost to the district, as patients previously had to travel long distances to facilities like St. Karoli Lwanga Hospital Nyakibale, Kisizi Hospital, or Kabale Regional Referral Hospital to access such services. Now, the service is available closer to the people and within a government facility.
Bugangari Health Centre IV recently also received an ultrasound scan, and with the addition of the digital X-ray machine, it is expected to improve health service delivery in the district.
This is the first X-ray machine in any public health facility in Rukungiri, marking a significant milestone in the district’s healthcare development.
