
Rukungiri District Commissions Renovated Classrooms at Kayanga Primary School
Rukungiri: The Rukungiri District Local Government has commissioned newly renovated buildings at Kayanga Primary School, including four classrooms. The renovation project, which cost UGX 62 million, was completed by MECIWEL Investments Ltd.
The commissioning ceremony took place on March 21, at the school premises in Kayanga Primary School, Kisiizi Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county, Rukungiri District.
Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Steven Nsubuga Bewayo urged the headteacher and staff to embrace such development projects and work together to elevate Kayanga Primary School to greater heights. He also encouraged school leaders to mobilize children to attend school regularly, emphasizing that improved attendance is key to better educational outcomes in the district.

Meanwhile, LC5 Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama advised school leaders not to rely solely on government support for infrastructure development. He encouraged them to explore other options such as community-led initiatives and partnerships. Kyomukama also suggested organizing fundraising events, engaging former students, and seeking creative ways to secure additional resources for the school.

The Director of MECIWEL Investments Ltd Kais Arinaitwe, commended the local government and school authorities for their support. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering quality work on time.

Head teacher Robert Twinomujuni expressed gratitude to the local government for supporting the school. However, he highlighted two critical challenges, the lack of staff quarters for teachers and inadequate toilet facilities. The school currently has an enrollment of 460 students.
