Ruhinda Sub-County Wins 2024 Rujumbura Boda Boda Tournament. 

Rukungiri: Ruhinda Sub-County has emerged as the winner of the 2024 Rujumbura Constituency Boda Boda Tournament, concluding the first edition of the event.

The tournament, which was organized by the hopeful Member of Parliament for Rujumbura Constituency Hon. Frank Arinaitwe Rukanirwa, began in June 2024 and involved teams from all sub-counties in the constituency. The finals were held on January 5, at Bugangari Sub-County playground. 

The tournament finals featured three categories of football: Men, Ladies, and Legends. In the Ladies’ category, Nyakagyeme Sub-County defeated Bikurungu Town Council 2-0. In the Legends’ category, Buhunga Sub-County secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Bwambara Sub-County. The Men’s final ended in a 0-0 draw between Ruhinda Sub-County and Bugangari Sub-County. Ruhinda clinched the title in a penalty shootout, winning 5-3. 

Winners in the Ladies’ and Legends’ categories were awarded trophies, medals, and UGX 300,000, while the runners-up received UGX 200,000. In the Men’s category, the winning team was presented with a trophy, medals, and a cow valued at UGX 2,500,000. The runners-up were awarded UGX 1,000,000. In addition, every participating boda boda team from the sub-counties and town councils received UGX 500,000. 

Hon. Frank Arinaitwe Rukanirwa, while addressing the crowd at the event, revealed that over 700 footballs and 52 sets of jerseys were distributed to the sub-counties, with each receiving six sets. He also disclosed that over 1,500 reflector jackets were given to boda boda riders. Hon. Arinaitwe promised to continue organizing such tournaments and other community development projects regularly. He encouraged residents to work hard to alleviate poverty and improve their livelihoods.

The guest of honor, Kabale District LC5 Chairperson Nelson Nshangabasheija, commended Hon. Arinaitwe for his dedication to promoting talent and developing the skills of Ugandans through such initiatives. He highlighted the tournament’s impact on fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and community cohesion in the constituency.
