Rubabo Emyooga SACCO Leaders Urged to Save More and Strengthen Teamwork

Rukungiri: The Rukungiri District Commercial Officer, Grace Tayebwa, has urged board members of Rubabo Emyooga SACCOs to support their institutions by saving regularly and buying more shares to boost their growth and development.

Tayebwa made the remarks on January 28 during a training session for five leaders from 18 Emyooga SACCO groups in Rubabo Constituency. The training was held at the Nyarushanje Sub-county Council Hall in Rukungiri District.

She encouraged SACCO board members to work together as a team, make joint decisions, and guide members on proper borrowing and timely loan repayment to ensure sustainability of the SACCOs.

The training brought together members from various groups, including journalists, persons with disabilities (PWDs), mechanics, salon operators, veterans, market vendors, performing artists, carpenters, tailors, fishermen, taxi owners, welders, restaurant operators, political leaders, women entrepreneurs, and youth leaders, among others.

Meanwhile, Jackline Namutebi, the Relations Officer at Microfinance Support Centre Limited, emphasized the importance of honesty and integrity in handling members’ funds. She urged SACCO leaders to manage finances with transparency and accountability to avoid misuse and loss of members’ trust. Namutebi also advised leaders to train members on proper utilization of loans.

The Chairperson of Emyooga SACCOs in the Kigezi sub-region, who also serves as the Chairperson of Rubabo Boda Boda Emyooga SACCO, Caleb Begumanya Kabayo, noted that the government has adequate funds to support communities. He stressed that proper organization and unity are key to benefiting from government programs.

The LC3 Chairperson of Nyarushanje Sub-county, Michael Musiime, cautioned loan officers and SACCO leaders against misusing borrowed funds. He advised them to invest loans in productive activities and avoid unnecessary expenses to prevent falling into debt traps.
