Rising coffee prices give Ntungamo farmers hope.
Farmers in Ntungamo district are counting blessings following rising coffee prices as they believe the prices will go a notch higher to have their needs met.
Organized under their Umbrella “Ntungamo coffee growers’ cooperative union”, the farmers believe the rise of coffee prices this season will certainly lead them to greater successes.
The Union Chairperson Norman Musiika speaking at the sidelines of the union annual general meeting on Friday 19th April 2024 noted that with the expanding unions and more coffee traded through the union cooperatives, farmers have a reason to smile over new prices and the organization.
The Union general secretary Hellen Sabbath Rugasira is optimistic that the new dawn in organization of coffee farmers as well as prices will lead farmers to development.
In 2018, Farmers in Ntungamo started organizing themselves through a union formed out of over 200 Cooperatives including those from neighboring districts.
As a result government has since constructed for them a hulling centre among other infrastructure.
