Retired Head teachers Urged to Engage in Farming and Cattle Keeping for Extra Income 

Rukungiri: Retired head teachers in Rukungiri District have been encouraged to participate in farming and cattle keeping as an additional source of income. 

This was revealed on March 6, by the LC5 Chairperson of Rukungiri District Geoffrey Kyomukama, during a meeting of the Rukungiri District Retired Head teachers Association held at the district headquarters main council hall. 

Kyomukama urged retired head teachers to stay active and engaged in their communities by participating in government programs. He emphasized that they can use their valuable experience and skills to benefit others. 

He also encouraged them to rear domestic animals and engage in farming, not only as a source of income but also as a way to pass on their knowledge and experience to the younger generation.

Meanwhile, the Rukungiri district secretary for education, commercial services and tourism Keredonia Musimenta advised retired head teachers to exercise financial prudence when receiving pension payments or a lump sum of money. She stressed the importance of saving before making major financial decisions, highlighting that setting aside a portion of one’s income can help build a financial safety net and create opportunities for a secure future.

The chairperson of the Rukungiri District Retired Head Teachers Association David Kapiira, called on government authorities to bring services and programs closer to retired teachers. He urged the government to introduce initiatives that can help them earn extra income and provide access to medical care to ensure their well-being.
