Nyakishenyi Subcounty Chairperson Seeks UGX 80 Million for Ambulance After Surviving Deadly Accident
Rukungiri: The LCIII Chairperson for Nyakishenyi Subcounty, Wednesday Twinomujuni, is seeking over UGX 80 million to purchase an ambulance for Nyakishenyi and Nyarushanje sub-counties, which are considered hard-to-reach areas in Rukungiri district.
Twinomujuni announced this on December 14, during a thanksgiving ceremony held at Rwakitura Leisure Gardens in Murama Parish, Nyakishenyi. The event was organized to raise funds for the ambulance and to celebrate several personal milestones, including his daughter’s graduation, his child’s baptism, his 18-year marriage anniversary, and his wife’s recent inclusion on the government payroll in September.
He explained that his motivation came from a life-threatening accident he suffered in April 2020. After the accident, getting timely ambulance assistance was difficult. He credited his survival to friends who rushed him to the hospital, stating that without them, he might have died at the scene.
Twinomujuni said this experience inspired him to fundraise for an ambulance to serve the people of Nyakishenyi and Nyarushanje and he needs the support of the general public to raise over UGX 80 million to fulfill this goal.
A total of over UGX 14 million was collected for this cause.
The North Kigezi Diocesan secretary Rev. Canon Erick Beingana Bangyenzi, who represented the Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, praised Twinomujuni for dedicating his thanksgiving to God. He encouraged Christians to trust in God in all aspects of life, including work, studies, health, and finances.
The hopeful Member of Parliament for Rubabo Constituency Bob Alex Rugonde, asked the public to support the government projects such as schools and health facilities and urged the government to invest more in healthcare to improve services.
Rukungiri District LCV Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama, representing the chief guest, Minister for Security Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, noted that Nyakishenyi and Nyarushanje sub-counties lack ambulances because government ambulances are typically stationed at Health Center IV facilities at the county level.
He called on the government to allocate ambulances to Health Center III facilities at the sub-county level to ensure timely medical assistance for rural communities.
