Missing Diocese Of Kigezi Catechist found dead.
Kabale: A catechist attached to the Diocese of Kigezi who went missing has been found dead.
Living Aryatwijuka, 40 years, a catechist attached to Rubira church of Uganda in Kikungiri archdeaconry and a resident of Katookye village, Kigata parish, Kyanamira sub-county in Kabale district went missing on Monday 15th January 2024.
According to his wife, Prudence Ninsiima, Akanyijuka left home at around 10:00 AM heading to Kikungiri archdeaconry headquarters in Southern Division, Kabale municipality to handover Sunday offertory collections.
Ninsiima said that Akanyijuka however did not return and his mobile phone went off.
searching in vain, Ninsiima intimated that her and Christians developed panic after his motorcycle, coat (maroon in color), church books and receipt for church money were on Tuesday found abandoned along Kabale-Mbarara road in Rubira village, Kyanamira sub county.
The wife then said that they are worried that he could have been killed.
ASP Elly Maate, the Police spokesperson for Kigezi region confirmed the incident saying that police had embarked on the search and investigations started as the case of disappearance was registered at Kabale police station under file number CRB 063/2024.
However, on Saturday (January 20th 2024), Akanyijuka’s body was found at river Nyabakazi along Kabale-Mbarara road.
Police together with local leaders rushed to the scene after being notified, retrieved the body and a postmortem was done as statements were further recorded from different witnesses.
Maate reveals that no arrest has since been made but police investigations are under way.
A case of disappearance has now been substituted into murder.
