Men Advised to Abstain After Childbirth.

Rukungiri: Men have been urged to avoid having sexual intercourse with their wives immediately after childbirth to prevent excessive bleeding and infections.

The Rukungiri Municipal Health Officer, Boaz Kanyesigye, made the remarks on August 22, during an interview with our reporter at his office in the Municipal headquarters. He advised men to support their wives with different activities after delivery instead of rushing into intimacy.

Kanyesigye further emphasized the importance of feeding mothers on a balanced diet and allowing them at least six weeks before resuming sexual relations. He said this period helps women heal from childbirth wounds and recover fully.

He also encouraged men to always accompany their wives for antenatal visits, noting that this gives them more knowledge on how to care for both the mother and the baby for better health.

A midwife at Rukungiri Health Centre IV, Shillah Ainebyoona, highlighted key causes of excessive bleeding after childbirth. These include multiple pregnancies, delivering big babies, obesity, and low blood levels in mothers.

Ainebyoona called on health workers, parents, and pregnant women to take responsibility in fighting postpartum bleeding. She advised expectant mothers to always take prescribed drugs that boost blood levels and to embrace family planning in order to have manageable numbers of children.
