Innocent Kashobera denies reports of withdrawing from the Rukungiri district Woman MP race.

Rukungiri: A candidate in the Rukungiri district woman representative contest Innocent Nabaasa Kashobera has disputed allegations circulating on social media revealing that she has left the race.

Nabaasa made the revelation while speaking to our reporter in a phone interview on January 8, 2026.

Recently, social media was awash with information alleging that Nabaasa had withdrawn from the race.

However she explicitly told our reporter that such information is baseless and intended at curtailing her aspirations of representing Rukungiri as the district woman Member of Parliament come January 15, 2026.

Nabasa widely known as “Enyangyi” contesting as an independent candidate with a ball as her symbol said she is still in the race and asked voters to choose her over other candidates without fear.

She said the electorate should vote for leaders who are people centered and have the ability to work on community problems.

“Don’t be lied to! I’m still in the race. Allegations that I have quite the race are unfounded and should be treated with the contempt they deserve. I ask voters in Rukungiri to choose me as their next woman MP on the elections day. Don’t look at the flag. Look at the ability”. Said Nabasa.

Nabaasa who lost the July 2025 National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primary election to former Rubabo Member of Parliament Mary Paula Kebirungi Turyahikayo said her victory was robbed and couldn’t support a person who sponsored election malpractices.

She said she possesses the ability to effectively represent the people of Rukungiri using her voice and connections.

The race for Rukungiri district woman representative to Parliament has attracted 5 candidates including the incumbent Woman MP Medius Natukunda Kaharata (Independent), Christine Tusanyuke (FDC), Mary Paula Kebirungi Turyahikayo (NRM), former Woman MP Betty Bamukwasa Muzanira (PFF), and Innocent Naabasa Kashobera (Independent)
