Gov’t ready to support Cocoa and coffee farmers in Rukungiri.
Rukungiri: The government of Uganda is set to support commercial farmers who are interested in growing coffee and cocoa.
This was revealed by the Principal Agricultural Officer Rukungiri district, Pius Onek Kwesiga, while interacting with our reporter in his office at the district headquarters recently.
Coffee and Cocoa growing project is an initiative supported by the European Union (EU) in co-operation with the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) and other international organizations, to support farmers with 10 acres of land and above who are interested in growing these cash crops in one area.
The project will cover defined fixed eligible costs under 10 to 19 acres with 30% contribution and 20 and above acres with 40% contribution.
The primary objective of this project is to contribute to Uganda’s transition towards an inclusive, green and competitive carbon economy with the creation of decent green jobs in a number of key sectors laid down in the Uganda Green Growth Development Strategy (2017/18 – 2030/31).
Kwesiga advised interested beneficiaries to apply in the office of the principal Agricultural Officer not later than 30th September 2023.
