FMD Out break Confirmed in Kebisoni T/C.
Rukungiri: Authorities in Kebisoni Town council have confirmed the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease-FMD.
Godfrey Asiimwe, the Kebisoni Town Council veterinary officer said that the disease was registered in Kakinga cell, Central division, Kebisoni Town counci, Rukungiri district.
Asiimwe who spoke to Country Radio on Wednesday March 27th 2024 described the disease as dengerous to both animals and human beings. He said affected animal develops slobbering and smacking lips, shivering, raised temperatures and sore blisters on feet.
Asiimwe further appealed to farmers to be vigilant when these signs show up and to report to the nearest veterinary officers for quick intervention since the disease is contagious.
He further told our reporter, that after the confirmation of FMD, they convened a meeting where it was resolved that a quarantine should be instituted to avert the spread of this severe and highly contagious viral disease.
Asiime said the quarantine will come to effect on Monday next week.
He however expressed concern over lack of vaccines in their offices and advised farmers to avoid conmen who want mislead them with fake vaccines.
Previously FMD has been reported in the districts found in the Cattle Corridor Including Kiruhura, Isingiro, Mbarara, Lyantonde, and Ibanda.
