Bobi Wine Urges Ugandans to Reject NRM Candidates in 2026 Elections
National: The National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has appealed to Ugandans not to vote for any candidate representing the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the upcoming 2026 general elections, saying it is the only way to end what he called decades of misrule.
Bobi Wine made the appeal on November 12, while addressing residents of Rukungiri District at Kagashe Playground in Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
The NUP leader, who is also a presidential candidate in the 2026 elections, was concluding his campaign trail in the Kigezi sub-region, which ended in Rukungiri after beginning earlier in the day in Kanungu District.
Kyagulanyi first addressed a large crowd in the centre of Rukungiri town before proceeding to the playground rally, where he criticized the NRM government for allegedly subjecting Ugandans to suffering through poor health services, a failing education system, bad roads, and widespread injustice.
He said these problems stem from a regime that has ruled the country for over 40 years, which he accused of being characterized by corruption, nepotism, and divisionism.
“Whoever contests under the NRM ticket is part of the reason Ugandans are suffering. The only way to change our country for the better is by voting out the NRM,” Kyagulanyi said.
Bobi Wine further pledged that once elected president, his government will release all political prisoners, naming Dr. Kizza Besigye, Eddy Mutwe, Sam Mugumya, and Waswa Mufumbiro, among others, whom he claimed were detained by the current government without justification.
