Bishop Asiimwe Criticizes Government Over Poor State of Buyanja–Nyakaina Road

Rukungiri: The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, has strongly criticized the government for failing to improve the Buyanja–Nyakaina road, which connects to Kabale University Rukungiri Campus.

Bishop Asiimwe made the remarks on November 2, during the closure of a three-day diocesan mission held at St. John’s Nyakaina Church of Uganda Parish in Kyamakanda Archdeaconry, North Kigezi Diocese.

He noted that the road is in a poor state and urgently needs rehabilitation to ease transport for students, staff, and the surrounding community.

The Bishop also expressed concern about the increasing commercialization of politics in Uganda, urging Christians to elect visionary leaders who prioritize public service rather than those who buy votes with small handouts such as salt or hoes.

The parish priest of Nyarurambi Parish in the Diocese of Kigezi, Rev. Isaiah Arinaitwe, who was the guest preacher, condemned the high rate of adultery in the community. He said the sin has eroded respect among prominent people and led to family breakdowns and spiritual decay.

Rev. Arinaitwe emphasized that sin spares no one, regardless of education level or wealth, warning believers to turn back to God.
