Assistant RDC Mirembe Karazarwe Urges PDM Leaders to Avoid Using Votes in Beneficiary Selection.
Rukungiri: Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) for Rukungiri Mabel Mirembe Karazarwe has called on chairpersons of Parish Development Model (PDM) associations a cross the district to stop using votes when selecting beneficiaries to receive funds.
Karazarwe made this appeal on October 26, 2024 during a meeting with the heads of Bwanga PDM Sacco in Nyandari Cell, Bwanga Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county, Rukungiri District.
She emphasized that the RDC’s office is committed to overseeing government programs, including the Parish Development Model, to ensure fairness and transparency. She urged leaders of associations like Nyakazinga Coffee Growers, Shumba Matoke Group, and Nyandari Matoke Group to be transparent with their members and to follow proper procedures when disbursing funds.
Assistant RDC encouraged the chairpersons to move away from voting methods and instead select beneficiaries fairly, starting with those who registered early.
A section of residents such as Marry Asimwe, Loyce Tumusiime and Ferester Mary Beineomugisha raised concerns about the lack of accountability and the use of voting in selecting beneficiaries, saying the voting system had disadvantaged some people. One member, who registered in October last year, complained that she had not received any PDM funds, while others who registered later had already received theirs.
