
28 Candidates Nominated for Parliamentary Seats in Rukungiri District
Uganda: A total of 28 candidates have been duly nominated to contest for parliamentary seats in the upcoming general elections in Rukungiri District.
This was announced by the Rukungiri District Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Abas K. Namara, as he concluded the two-day nomination exercise at 5:00 p.m. on October 23, at the Rukungiri District Council Hall.
According to Namara, 16 candidates were nominated on the first day October 22, while 12 more were confirmed today October 23, bringing the total number to 28.
Among those nominated 4 candidates are on the NRM ticket, 4 on the PFF ticket, 3 on the FDC ticket, 1 on the DP ticket, 1 on the NUP ticket, and the rest as independents.
Out of the 28 candidates, 5 are contesting for the Woman Member of Parliament seat, 10 for Rujumbura County, 9 for Rubabo County, and 4 for Rukungiri Municipality.

Those nominated, include Earnest Ngabirano Katara (Independent, Rubabo), Maureen Tumwebaze (Independent, Rubabo), Ingrid Turinawe Kamateneti (PFF, Rukungiri Municipality), incumbent MP Naboth Namanya (Rubabo), former Rubabo MP Mary Paula Kebirungi Turyahikayo (NRM, Woman MP), and former Minister for Security Gen. Henry Tumukunde (NRM, Rukungiri Municipality).
Others are Eunice Shabamagara (DP, Rubabo), Andrew Niwabine (Independent, Rubabo), Mathias Rwabugumi (NRM, Rubabo), Innocent Naabasa Kashobera (Independent, Woman MP), Naabasa Ariho (FDC, Rujumbura), and Junior Murebire Rwendire (Independent, Rujumbura).
Those who were nominated yesterday include the Minister of Security and incumbent Rujumbura County MP, Rtd. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu (NRM); Dr. Wallen Niwagaba Tumwine (Independent, Rukungiri Municipality); former MP Fred Turyamuhweza Tumuheirwe (PFF, Rujumbura); David Tushabomwe Ndindirize (Independent, Rubabo); Allan Nabaasa Tiberondwa (FDC, Rubabo); and Herbert Magezi (Independent, Rujumbura).
Others are former Woman MP Betty Bamukwasa Muzanira (PFF, District Woman MP), John Paddy Owomugisha (Independent, Rujumbura), Richard Akanyijuka (Independent, Rukungiri Municipality), Hillary Tumuhimbise Tusiime (NUP, Rujumbura), Alex Bob Rugonde (Independent, Rubabo), Simon Niwagaba (Independent, Rujumbura), incumbent Woman MP Medius Natukunda Kaharata, Christine Tusanyuke (FDC, Woman MP), Anacklet Amanya (Independent, Rujumbura), and Gerald Karenzi Kooli (Independent, Rujumbura).
Returning Officer Abas Namara noted that the nomination exercise ended successfully and urged all candidates to wait until November 10 to begin their campaigns. The general election will be held on January 15 next year.
