North Kigezi Diocese Raises Shs2.7 Billion for Emmanuel Cathedral Construction

Kampala: North Kigezi Diocese has raised more than Shs2.7 billion towards the completion of Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Rukungiri District.

The funds were raised on November 1, during a fundraising and thanksgiving function held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala, which brought together Christians, political leaders, well-wishers and supporters of the Diocese.

The event combined three activities: fundraising for the completion of Emmanuel Cathedral, thanksgiving for the life and service of the Commissioner General of the Uganda Prisons Service, Canon Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, and fellowship among North Kigezi Diocese Christians living in Kampala.

Speaking at the function, Canon Dr. Byabashaija said he had gone through many challenges and difficult moments in life but thanked God for helping him overcome them.

He said he and his family had contributed Shs43 million towards the thanksgiving, adding that the Diocese still needed about Shs3.7 billion to complete the remaining construction work at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano.

In his sermon, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, who led the service, said thanksgiving involves recognising what God has done and showing appreciation.

He warned that failure to give thanks dishonours God and encourages pride and dependence on fellow human beings instead of God.
