Kashenyi Secondary School Parents Plan Fundraiser to Complete UGX 673 Million Girls’ Dormitory
Rukungiri: Parents of Kashenyi Secondary School in Ruhinda Sub-county, Rukungiri District, have resolved to hold a fundraising event on March 13, 2027, to raise funds for the completion of a girls’ dormitory that is currently at the ground-floor stage.
The resolution was made on October 24, during the school’s Annual General Meeting held on the school premises.
The dormitory is intended to reduce overcrowding among girls who are currently accommodated in small hostels and create room for the school to admit more students.
The project, being constructed by Kinombe Nyaruzinga Construction Company, is expected to cost UGX 673,117,000.
Speaking to our reporter after the meeting, the school headteacher, Rev. Ivan Mwongyera, said the school currently has 1,209 students, a number that has put pressure on the available infrastructure.
He said the school urgently needs additional dormitories, classrooms, an ICT laboratory, a science laboratory and a library to improve the learning environment.
Despite these challenges, Rev. Mwongyera highlighted several achievements recorded by the school this year. These include the provision of safe drinking water, regular learner assessments through tests, support for O-Level and A-Level candidates, the installation of security lights around the school compound, the purchase of a generator and the construction of a gravity water supply system.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chairperson of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA), John Arineitwe, said the parents had agreed to prioritise the completion of the girls’ dormitory before embarking on other projects.
He said the school’s future plans include constructing a boys’ dormitory, a modern kitchen and a science laboratory, among other facilities.
Arineitwe called upon well-wishers, former students, politicians and other stakeholders to support the fundraising event and contribute towards the school’s development.
He said the support would help improve the school’s infrastructure and create a conducive learning environment for students.
