Nyabiteete SS Raises Concern Over Lack of Support for Patriotism Club Despite National Recognition
Rukungiri: Management of Nyabiteete Secondary School in Buyanja Sub-county, Rukungiri District, has raised concern over the lack of support for its Patriotism Club despite the school’s outstanding performance in patriotism training.
The concern was raised on October 10, during the passing-out ceremony of 230 patriots from Senior One and Senior Five, held at the school premises.
Nyabiteete Secondary School, which trains students in patriotism every year, was ranked first among patriotism schools in Uganda and is expected to represent the country in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on December 11, 2026, for the third consecutive time.
Speaking at the function, the school’s Patriotism Club patron, Asaph Akatwijuka , who also serves as deputy head teacher, said many schools struggle to pass out patriots wearing the proper patriotism uniforms.
He also revealed that students who passed out last year had not yet received their certificates and called upon the Rukungiri District Patriotism Coordinator to address the matter in time.

The head teacher, Sabiiti Epaphras, echoed the concerns over uniforms and certificates, saying support should not be limited to schools in urban centres but should also reach rural institutions such as Nyabiteete Secondary School.
He noted that patriotism training had equipped students not only with skills to defend their country but also with knowledge of financial literacy and health.

In response, the Rukungiri District Patriotism Coordinator, Vital Bashasha, said he was following up on the issue of certificates and expressed hope that they would be issued before the end of the year.
Bashasha added that a patriotism retreat was scheduled for December and that a request for uniforms had been made. He said Nyabiteete Secondary School would be the first to be considered if the uniforms were delivered.
The chief guest, SP Mbusa Luke, the Rukungiri District Police Community Liaison Officer, commended the school management for its efforts in promoting patriotism among students.
He urged the patriots to keep their certificates safely, explaining that the documents could be important supporting credentials when applying to join the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and other security agencies.
