Rwerere Security Officer Warns Boda Boda Riders, Vehicle Washers Against Crime and Water Pollution

Rukungiri: The Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) of Rwerere Town Council, Wright Mwongyera, has warned vehicle washers against washing vehicles in rivers and other water bodies, saying the practice causes water pollution and poses risks to public health.

Wright made the remarks on October 9, during a joint meeting of the Rwerere Boda Boda Association held at Rwerere Church of Uganda in Rwerere Town Council, Rukungiri District.

He also urged boda boda riders to report any unidentified or suspicious individuals in their communities to security authorities following increased cases of animal theft in Rwerere Town Council and neighbouring areas.

The chairman of the umbrella association, Darius Nabaasa, highlighted several challenges affecting the boda boda industry, including playing cards at boda boda stages, which he said encourages gambling and may expose riders to theft and other security risks.

Nabaasa also warned boda boda stage leaders that penalties would be imposed on those who fail to participate in the government-directed general cleaning exercise conducted at the end of every month.
