Six Kamateneti Witnesses Cross-Examined in Tumukunde Election Petition.

Rukungiri: Six witnesses presented by petitioner Ingrid Kamateneti Turinawe in the election petition challenging the election of Gen. Henry Tumukunde as Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament have today October 7, been cross-examined by lawyers representing the first respondent, Gen. Tumukunde.

The cross-examined witnesses include petitioner Ingrid Kamateneti Turinawe, who lost to Gen. Tumukunde in the January 2026 Parliamentary general elections, as well as Safia Nduhukyire, Scovia Musiimenta, Gadson Mutabazi, Angellah Nabuufu and Aboni Katunguka, a person with visual impairment.

The hearing is taking place at the Rukungiri High Court before Justice Richard Wejuli Wabwire.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s witnesses told court that they have evidence to support their allegations that Gen. Tumukunde engaged in bribery and other electoral malpractices.

Kamateneti is challenging Gen. Tumukunde’s victory and has asked court to nullify the election results, arguing that the results declared by the Electoral Commission did not reflect a valid election.

She has also challenged the role and decision of the Electoral Commission in declaring Gen. Tumukunde the winner of the Rukungiri Municipality parliamentary election.

Justice Wabwire has adjourned the case to tomorrow October 8, at 9:00 a.m. when the witnesses of the first respondent, Gen. Tumukunde, are expected to be cross-examined by the petitioner’s lawyers.

The hearing is part of the ongoing election petition in which Kamateneti seeks to overturn Gen. Tumukunde’s election as Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality.
