Senior Six Vacists to Be Taken to Kyankwanzi for Patriotism Training
National: The Government of Uganda is set to introduce mandatory six-month patriotism training for all Senior Six vacists across the country, starting this year.
This was revealed over the weekend by the State House Private Secretary to the President on Youth, Commissioner Hellen Seku, who also represented the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps during a patriotism pass-out ceremony held at Immaculate Heart Girls School, Nyakibale, in Rukungiri Municipality.
Seku said President Yoweri Museveni had agreed that all Senior Six vacists will be taken to Kyankwanzi for the training, together with patriotism patrons and coordinators, who will undergo refresher courses.
She added that teachers and headteachers who have not undergone patriotism training will also be included in the programme.
Commissioner Seku explained that patriotism training is a responsibility for every Ugandan, citing Article 17, Clause 2 of the Constitution of Uganda, which states that every Ugandan has a duty to undergo patriotic training and that the government shall provide the necessary facilities.

The announcement followed concerns raised by the Rukungiri District Coordinator in charge of Patriotism, Vital Bashasha, over challenges affecting patriotism programmes in schools.
Bashasha said schools are facing a shortage of patriotism uniforms, while patriotism patrons have gone for a long time without refresher courses.
He also noted that some headteachers and teachers have not received adequate training in patriotism programmes. Bashasha called on the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps to intervene and address the challenges.
