Rwabugumi Holds Thanksgiving After Winning Rubabo MP Seat, Raises Over 158 Shs Million For Church Construction
Rukungiri; The newly elected Member of Parliament for Rubabo County in Rukungiri District, Mathias Mwesigwa Bwabugumi, has held a thanksgiving ceremony to thank Almighty God for answering his prayers and enabling him to win the parliamentary election.
The thanksgiving ceremony was held on August 10, at his home in Bwanga Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county, Rukungiri District, and was attended by several ministers, Members of Parliament, religious leaders from different denominations, civil servants and residents, among other guests.
During the ceremony, Bwabugumi also baptized his daughter.
Preaching at the function, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, thanked Bwabugumi for fulfilling his promise to hold a thanksgiving ceremony after winning the parliamentary election.
Bishop Asiimwe said Bwabugumi had made the commitment before God when he visited him seeking prayers and God’s intervention to win the election.
He cautioned people against forgetting the promises they make to God after overcoming challenges, describing such behaviour as ungodly.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, who attended the function, urged elected leaders to focus on serving their people and maintaining peace rather than promoting division.
Tayebwa said the time for politics is over and that leaders must now concentrate on delivering services to their communities.
He asked residents of Rubabo County to give Bwabugumi time to serve and urged them to task their MP to be their voice in government instead of expecting him to make individual contributions to residents.
Tayebwa also appealed to religious leaders not to put excessive pressure on politicians by demanding contributions to churches.

The Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Kinkizi East in Kanungu District, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, pledged to work with Bwabugumi to promote the development of Rubabo County.
Baryomunsi said Kinkizi East and Rubabo are neighbouring constituencies and therefore require cooperation between their leaders to address challenges affecting their communities.
He urged Bwabugumi to serve all residents equally, regardless of whether they voted for him or not.

The Minister for Security and Rujumbura County MP, Rtd. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, urged residents to embrace programmes aimed at fighting poverty and improving household incomes.
Muhwezi said people should work to improve their livelihoods rather than remain trapped in poverty and merely appear in national statistics as low-income earners.
He also thanked Bwabugumi for returning to God to give thanks after winning the parliamentary election.

In his remarks, Bwabugumi said he organised the thanksgiving to thank God for answering his prayers and enabling him to rise from a district councillor to Member of Parliament.
He described his journey to Parliament as challenging and said he could not have achieved it without God’s intervention and the support of the people.
Bwabugumi thanked everyone who supported and voted for him during the election and pledged to serve all residents of Rubabo County equally.
He said all the money and other contributions collected during the thanksgiving would be used to support the construction of Bwanga Archdeaconry in Nyarushanje Sub-county under the North Kigezi Diocese.
More than 158 million shillings both in cash and pledges, over 600 bags of cement, and other items were collected during the function.
