Hailstorm Wrecks Houses and Crops in Bugangari, Residents Fear Famine

Rukungiri: Heavy rains accompanied by hailstorm wreaked havoc in Bugangari Parish, Bugangari Sub-county, Rukungiri District leaving two houses destroyed and crops damaged.

Speaking to our reporter on July 24, the affected residents said last evening’s rain left them with nothing to eat after their gardens were swept away by running water.

Xavier Turyamuhweza and Angela Mwesigwa, commonly known as Ssajja said the hailstorm blew off the roof of their houses, destroyed their banana plantations and damaged crops.

The chairperson LC1 for Kakirago Cell Jackson Rwambuka, Conon Wyckliffe Makky Twinomujuni and Emmanuel Agaba both residents of Bugangari expressed worry over the looming famine occasioned by the hailstorm.

They called on the government to urgently provide relief food and other necessary support to the affected residents.

The LCIII Chairperson of Bugangari Sub-county, Innocent Turyahabwe widely known as Kaino confirmed the disaster and revealed that they are compiling a list of the affected residents which they will submit to the higher offices for timely intervention.
