14 Women Groups in Rukungiri Receive Funding Under UWEP Program

Rukungiri: On 17th February, 2025, 14 women groups in Rukungiri District received funding from the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development through the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP).

The funds are intended to support various income-generating projects, including tailoring, poultry keeping, brick making, piggery, produce trading, and wine production.

During the meeting which was held in Rukungiri district council hall, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Hillary Agaba urged the women to use the funds responsibly, emphasizing that the money is a loan that must be repaid to enable them to develop themselves further.

District Community Development Officer Nemescious Agaba encouraged the beneficiaries to work hard and stay focused on improving their livelihoods, reminding them of the importance of repaying the loan.

The Principal Community Development Officer Charlene Twesiime, advised the women to embrace a culture of saving, which would help them repay the loan with ease.

UWEP aims to improve women’s access to financial services, empower them to harness their economic potential, create self-employment opportunities, and equip them with skills for enterprise growth, value addition, and marketing of products.
