100 Nyabiteete Parish Residents Trained Ahead of PDM Fund Disbursement

Rukungiri: 100 residents of Nyabiteete Parish in Buyanja Sub-county, Rukungiri District, who were selected to benefit from the Parish Development Model (PDM) program in the 2025/2026 financial year, have held a preparatory training ahead of the fund disbursement.

The training, organized by the Nyabiteete PDM SACCO committee on September 30, involved visits to two model farmers in Kanombe cell: Emmanuel Twesigye, a banana farmer, and Scola Bakiine, who grows bananas and rears pigs. The beneficiaries were trained on proper banana plantation management and pig feeding practices for improved productivity.

Nyabiteete Parish Chief, Boaz Tindiwensi, urged residents to embrace mindset change, emphasizing that wealth comes through hard work. He dismissed those discouraging beneficiaries, saying that people who claim that one million shillings cannot change lives are already satisfied and not the intended PDM beneficiaries.

Speaking at the same training, the Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO), Isaac Bitwiire, warned that strict policies have been put in place to guide PDM. He cautioned that beneficiaries who fail to refund the funds risk arrest and a nine-month jail sentence.

Bitwiire encouraged the beneficiaries to apply the skills they learned to improve their livelihoods, reminding them that PDM funds are loans that must be repaid. He also advised them to embrace value addition, especially in coffee production, and to avoid selling unprocessed coffee.
