Woman Hacked to Death by Lover in Rukungiri District

Rukungiri: Police in Rukungiri District are hunting for a man suspected of brutally murdering his lover following a domestic dispute in Buhunga Sub-county.

The suspect, identified as Amon Gumisiriza, a resident of Kagando cell, Kabingo parish, Buhunga Sub-county, is accused of killing 46-year-old Evalyn Tusiime, a resident of Kigariko cell, with whom he had been cohabiting for the past five years.

According to the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the couple had been living together at the woman’s home but recently developed misunderstandings. Tusiime had earlier reported to the area chairperson that Gumisiriza had threatened to kill her.

On Sunday, October 20, 2025, at around 8:00 p.m., Gumisiriza allegedly attacked Tusiime while she was having supper in her house. He reportedly hacked her several times on the head, arm, and shoulder using a panga.

Her cries for help attracted neighbours, including the area chairperson Justus Mugarura, who rushed to the scene and helped take her to Nyakibale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police later visited and documented the scene, and the body was taken to Nyakibale Hospital mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue.

ASP Maate confirmed that a manhunt for the suspect is underway and that inquiries into the case are ongoing.
