Way of the Cross Processions Fill Rukungiri Streets on Good Friday

Rukungiri: Christians in Rukungiri district have today April 3, joined millions around the world to commemorate Good Friday with solemn prayers and the symbolic Way of the Cross.

The day, which forms a central part of Holy Week in the Christian calendar, saw believers from different denominations gather in large numbers from the morning hours.

They moved in procession through major streets, hills, and church compounds in remembrance of the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

While carrying crosses, worshippers retraced the 14 Stations of the Cross, pausing at each point for scripture readings, reflections, and prayers.

Religious leaders in the district urged Christians to use the occasion to renew their faith and promote unity within their communities.

They emphasized that Good Friday is not only about mourning but also about understanding the depth of love demonstrated through Christ’s sacrifice.

The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese Rt Rev Onesimus Asiimwe who led prayers at All Saints church Rukungiri urged Christians to learn how to walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.

He asked Christians to renew their spiritual relationship with God and cautioned them to stay away from the sin.

Meanwhile Rev. Fr. John Vianney Byaruhanga, the Parish Priest of Christ the King parish while preaching during the procession held to mark good Friday, urged Christians to dedicate their lives fully to God, including their families, struggles, debts, and illnesses.

He further encouraged believers to love one another and always seek guidance from their parents and the Church.

While preaching in a holy mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish-Buyanja shortly after trekking the way of the cross, Parish Priest Rev. Father Benjamin Tukamushaba urged faithfuls to emulate Christ’s love and always engage in charity work.

He further asked christians to fully use their talents and abilities for the sake of humanity.
