Ven. Kakanyisa Warns Against Rising Political Hatred in Rukungiri as Rev. Edson Ampeire is Installed at Kyatoko Church
Rukungiri: The Archdeacon of All Saints Church of Uganda, Rujumbura Archdeaconry, Ven. Dickson Kakanyisa, has expressed concern over rising political tensions in Rukungiri District ahead of the upcoming NRM elections.
Speaking on May 25, during the installation ceremony of Rev. Edson Ampeire as the 10th Parish Priest of Kyatoko Church of Uganda under Rujumbura Archdeaconry, Ven. Kakanyisa warned that the elections are turning into a “do-or-die” affair. He said that some candidates are planting hatred among voters, similar to what happened in the past.
The event took place at Kyatoko Church of Uganda Parish in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
Ven. Kakanyisa noted that although Rukungiri has recently enjoyed peace and cooperation, the return of political hatred and divisions is worrying. He recalled the past political rivalry between the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), where politicians often viewed each other as enemies.
He further pointed out that even within the NRM party, supporters are now divided over their preferred candidates, as seen during recent internal elections at village and district levels, where cases of violence were reported.
As the country heads into another election period, Ven. Kakanyisa called on the public to remain calm and united, urging them not to fight or abuse each other over political differences. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and love in their communities.

Rev. Edson Ampeire and his wife, Rose Ampeire Amooti, were transferred to Kyatoko Parish in January this year from the Missions Department in the Bishop’s Office.
