UPDF, Security Minister Hands over Assorted Items During Tarehe Sita Activities in Rukungiri
Rukungiri: The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), together with the Minister for Security, Rtd. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, have handed over assorted items to communities in Rukungiri District during the commissioning of the 45th Tarehe Sita Anniversary projects.
The donated items included 150 life jackets for residents living along the shores of Lake Edward in Rwenshama, Bwambara Sub-County. Other items included a delivery bed, more than 35 mattresses, and dustbins which were given to various health centres in Rukungiri District.

The handover ceremonies were held at Kikarara Primary School and at the shores of Lake Edward in Rwenshama on January 6, where Rtd. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi presided as the chief guest.
Brig. Gen. Justus Rukundo, Commandant of the Oliver Reginald Tambo Leadership School and Pan-African Centre of Excellence in Kaweweta, Nakaseke District, said this year marks the 45th Tarehe Sita Anniversary. He explained that the celebrations are being held in the Kigezi Subregion to honour those who sacrificed for Uganda’s liberation and noted that projects are being commissioned in all six districts of Kigezi as part of the commemoration.
Rtd. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura Constituency, appreciated the UPDF for thinking about the safety of the people by donating life jackets. He urged residents to always use them and share where necessary so that no one risks fishing or travelling on water without wearing a life jacket.
