UPDF, Security Minister Commission Tarehe Sita Projects in Rukungiri
Rukungiri: The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) together with the Minister for Security, Rtd. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, have commissioned several Tarehe Sita 45th Anniversary projects in Rukungiri District as a way of giving back to the community and honoring those who sacrificed during the 1986 liberation struggle.
The district launch was held on January 6 at Kikarara Primary School in Bwambara Subcounty and was attended by security officers, civil servants, politicians, and community members.

Brig. Gen. Justus Rukundo, Commandant of Olivia Reginald Tambo Leadership School and Pan-African Centre of Excellence in Kaweweta, Nakaseke District, said this year marks the 45th Tarehe Sita Anniversary. He explained that the celebrations are being held in the Kigezi Subregion to honor the lives of those who sacrificed for Uganda’s liberation. He added that the UPDF is commissioning projects across all six districts of Kigezi as part of the commemoration.
In Rukungiri District, Brig. Gen. Rukundo revealed that several projects have been completed. These include the construction of two classroom blocks at Kikarara Primary School and Kakonkoma Primary School, an incinerator at Rukungiri Health Centre IV, and a five-stance toilet at Rwakabengo Health Centre III.
The UPDF has also constructed staff houses at Ngoma Primary School and Ibanda Health Centre II, built a four-stance latrine at Bufunda Primary School, supported Kiyaga Primary School, and constructed a bridge at Kabaranga in Nyakishenyi, among other projects.

The chief guest, Rtd. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, who is also the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura Constituency, thanked the UPDF for selecting Kigezi, especially Rukungiri District, to host part of this year’s Tarehe Sita activities. He said the projects such as classrooms, toilets, incinerators, bridges, and health care will greatly improve service delivery and development in the district.
