Stop Politics of Religion- Museveni warns Kigezi leaders.

Rukungiri: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has asked leaders in Kigezi sub-region to shun politics of religion and focus on uniting people.

The president who was on Thursday, February 13, 2025 addressing Kigezi leaders at Rukungiri main stadium said he had received credible intelligence that there are some politicians who are dividing people along religious lines.

Museveni condemned such politicians explaining that development and social services don’t segregate people on the basis of religion.

He thus asked the voters to avoid whoever tries to manipulate them using religion.

The president’s message comes at a time when political temperatures have gone up in Kigezi sub-region and other parts of the Country with some politicians resorting to using religion as their political tool.

In the worst case scenario, several politicians have already manipulated religious leaders who have accepted to be their agents in churches where they minister.

In an interview with our reporter recently, Bishop Onesmus Ngoboka of God’s embassy churches asked his fellow religious leaders to stick to their core role of preaching the word of God and stop dividing people along religious lines.

It should be remembered that Uganda’s supreme law (Constitution) prohibits religious leaders from engaging in active politics.
