Security Minister Jim Muhwezi commends Businessman Charleson Batsigira over throwing his support behind him.
Rukungiri: The minister of security (Rtd) Major general Jim Muhwezi Katugugu has welcomed business man Charleson Kwikiriza Batsigira to his team and commended him over throwing his support behind him in his search for another term as the legislator representing Rujumbura county.
Kwikiriza who once threw his heart into the ring to challenge minister Muhwezi withdrew from the race before the National Resistance Movement primary elections could be held on July 15, 2025.
In an interview with our reporter, Batsigira said he had to quit the race after having a deep conversation with the minister who assured him of working on services that the people in his constituency needed.
“We all contest to work on the social services that our people want. Minister Muhwezi has made a commitment to me that he will work on our roads, water, electricity and schools which I myself was aspiring to work on. For this matter, I’m halting my candidacy to support him for this term”. Kwikiriza said in June last year.
At the beginning of this year, Kwikiriza appeared at minister Muhwezi’s campaign rally in Kikarara, Bwambara sub-county where he publicly campaigned for him in the constituency he once aspired to represent.
When minister Muhwezi who is holding the NRM flag took the microphone to address the rally, he appreciated Kwikiriza for withdrawing from the race to support him.
The minister explained that while he (Kwikiriza) left the race earlier, he couldn’t move with him on many rallies because he is always in Kampala on other businesses.
