Rukungiri Youth Delegates Endorse Hon. Mercy Kanyesigye for National Female Youth MP Seat (2026–2031)

Rukungiri: In a vibrant and politically charged meeting held at Rukungiri Inn Hotel in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, youth delegates from across the district officially endorsed Hon. Mercy Kanyesigye as their candidate for the National Female Youth Member of Parliament seat for the 2026–2031 term.

Addressing the gathering on August 13, Hon. Kanyesigye pledged to champion empowered youth structures, push for youth-friendly budget allocations, and foster unity among young people. She assured the delegates that if elected, she would work tirelessly to unite rather than divide the youth and to fight for their interests at the national level.

Among her key pledges, Kanyesigye promised to support the Rukungiri District Youth Chairperson in acquiring a motorcycle to help in mobilizing and monitoring youth projects. She also vowed to be the voice of young people by advocating for their active participation in national events, including the International Youth Day celebrations.

Her message resonated deeply with the delegates, who stressed the importance of leadership grounded in community engagement and integrity.

Rukungiri District Youth Chairperson Levi Tukundane Napoleon and Youth League Publicity Secretary Bruce Akandinda welcomed Kanyesigye’s ideas, saying they would greatly benefit youth in the district. Tukundane also echoed her sentiments, thanking the youth for mobilizing support for the NRM.

The Rukungiri Municipality Youth Chairperson Brian Tugumenawe, emphasized the need for their concerns to reach President Yoweri Museveni, particularly the request for boda bodas to help youth leaders mobilize support in villages ahead of the 2026 presidential elections.
