Rukungiri Woman MP Aspirant Annah Nuwagaba Nominated, Reaffirms Commitment to Fight Poverty Through Cocoa Farming
Rukungiri: The aspiring Woman Member of Parliament for Rukungiri District, Annah Nuwagaba Tumuramye, has been officially nominated to contest in the upcoming National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries.
Nuwagaba was nominated on 18th June 2025 at the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala by the Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi. She is now set to compete in the NRM primaries scheduled for next month.
Speaking to our reporter shortly after her nomination, Nuwagaba dismissed rumors suggesting she had withdrawn from the race to allow other candidates to contest unopposed. She attributed the misinformation to her political rivals who, she said, are intimidated by the strong support she enjoys across Rukungiri District.
“My nomination is a clear sign that I am committed to this race. The false rumors about me stepping down were being circulated by opponents who fear the overwhelming support I have on the ground,” Nuwagaba stated.
Nuwagaba emphasized that her campaign is centered on boosting household incomes, aligning with national government efforts to eliminate poverty. She cited her recent initiative of introducing cocoa plantations in Rukungiri District as a practical example of her commitment to economic development.
“I have already taken steps toward improving livelihoods by introducing cocoa farming, which I believe will significantly contribute to income generation for our people,” she said.
She concluded by appealing to the people of Rukungiri to support her candidature, promising to be a strong voice in Parliament and to represent their ideas and interests at the national level.
