Rukungiri Shocker: Man Killed Protecting Wife in Neighbourhood Fight

Rukungiri: A couple in Rukungiri district has been arrested in connection with the murder of their 23-year-old neighbour.

The arrested suspects are Moses Mujuni and his wife Goodrah Mugabirwe.

The deceased is Sunday Innocent Akim, a resident of Ncwera cell Rweshama parish Bwambara Sub County Rukungiri district.

The incident occurred on May 31, 2025, after a dispute between Mugabirwe and the victim’s wife, Harriet Tusiime, escalated into a violent confrontation.

The altercation reportedly began when Mugabirwe, allegedly drunk, started abusing Tusiime, prompting her husband Sunday Innocent Akim to intervene.

Mujuni, Mugabirwe’s husband, joined the fight and stabbed the now deceased (Sunday Innocent Akim) in the neck with a knife provided by his wife resulting in his death.

Police was notified, and a case of murder was reported at Rwenshama police station.

Police adds that the crime scene was examined, witness statements recorded, and the suspects were arrested.

The Kigezi region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, confirmed the arrests and stated that inquiries are ongoing. 

The postmortem was conducted, and the deceased’s body handed over to relatives for burial.
