Rukungiri Seed School to Open a Year Earlier as A local Contractor Beats Deadline
Rukungiri: Kinombe Nyaruzinga Construction Company Limited, which was awarded a UGX 1.94 billion contract to construct a seed secondary school in Bikurungu Town Council, is set to hand over the project this October—just 8 months after work began.
The contract was signed on February 15, 2024, between the company and Rukungiri District Local Government. The project was expected to take 18 months, ending in August 2026. However, the contractor has surprised many by completing 95% of the work in record time.
This progress was revealed on September 4, during an inspection by district leaders at the construction site in Kanyankwanzi Cell, Eastern Division.
The school includes three classroom blocks (each with two classrooms), two science laboratory blocks, an administration block, two twin staff houses for four teachers, an ICT library, staff and student latrines, and kitchens.

Company director Godfrey Nshabire said only painting and window glass installation remain and assured that the school will be ready by October.

Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom urged local leaders and residents to monitor the school closely and take ownership of it.

The Rukungiri District Secretary for Education, Commercial Services, and Tourism, Cledonia Musiimenta, praised the contractor for proving that local companies can deliver quality work just like those from Kampala and beyond. She called on parents in Bikurungu and neighboring areas to prepare their children to start school in the first term of 2025.

Originally, the school was expected to admit learners in January 2027. Thanks to the fast-tracked work, it will now open two years earlier, starting with Senior One to Senior Three, and later expanding to Senior Six.
