Rukungiri road accident claims life
Rukungiri: Police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances surrounding the single fatal accident that claimed the life of a 26 year old man.
The deceased who was a volunteer at Nyakibale hospital has been identified as Austin Abaho, a munyankole and resident of Northern ward, Kebisoni Town council, Rukungiri district.
According to the Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, it is alleged that Abaho (deceased) left Karoli Lwanga hospital Nyakibale (his work place) on Sunday 21st January 2024 at about 01:25 am riding a motorcycle registration number UDY 134Y heading back to Kebisoni at his place of residence.
Unfortunately when he reached at Katogo, he hit a pothole, lost control and hit a metallic side road guard and fell down. He died on the spot.
Police upon receiving information about the accident visited the scene and documented it.
Abaho’s body was taken to Karoli Lwanga hospital Nyakibale mortuary for post mortem.
Maate says the motorcycle was picked from the accident scene and is currently parked at Rukungiri Central Police Station pending IOV inspection.
The police spokesperson further reveals that a case of single fatal crush has been registered at Rukungiri Central Police Station under reference number TAR 06/2024 as inquiries into the matter continue.
Meanwhile our reporter was able to establish that the late Abaho was a son of Prosper Rwandambwe, a teacher at Rwabiganguro Primary school and Judith Kiconco, the incharge of St Mark health centre Ndama.
