Rukungiri police investigate murder by mob.
Rukungiri: Police in Rukungiri distict are investigating circumstances under which a 20 year old Wilber Ariho was lynched by an angry mob on allegations of defiling a 16 year old girl.
It’s alleged that on the 16th January 2024 at around 07:30 pm, the victim, a pupil at Nyabushenyi upper primary school and a resident of Kashanda village, Nyarushanje parish, Nyarushanje sub county, Rukungiri district, while was at home alone preparing supper, Ariho wilber together with Ezra Ekyorikunda found her at home, grabbed and took her to the valley with thick bushes in Nyakahanga cell.
Sequentially, Ariho had carnal knowledge as Ekyorikunda was holding her hands tight.
The victim however managed to escape from them after the act and went back home where she revealed to the rest of the family members what had happened.
After revealing the information, it circulated all over the village and on Wednesday 17th January 2024 in the morning hours, the two were man-hunted by the locals who managed to get them. They were seriously beaten and Ariho succumbed to injuries.
Police were informed by the area chairperson only identified as Ndyamuhika, and two cases of Defilement and murder by mob were registered at Rubabo police post.
One suspect Ezra Ekyorikunda was rescued from the mob and arrested as the body of Ariho was conveyed to Kisiizi hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional spokesperson, confirmed to our reporter that inquiries into the matter are at hand.
